DENTAL VENEERS

Many people who are interested in veneers are excited about the process of beautifying their smile, but may resist going through the process in fear of an unnatural look. It’s wise to choose an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Accredited dentist (AACD) when choosing to get veneers or any other cosmetic dental procedure. It is also advisable to research the reviews on the dentist you choose to help you determine which dental offices have the best reputation and track record. Don’t be afraid to ask questions during a consultation and look at before and after photos of veneers, too.

Dr. Anthony Vocaturo at NJ Smile Center understands the importance of carefully crafting and bonding dental veneers. Poorly crafted or bonded porcelain veneers can result in teeth that appear “thick,” bulky looking, and completely unnatural. Porcelain veneers that are properly designed and bonded result in a beautiful smile that others will think you were born with.

Because dental veneers are customized for each patient, it is imperative to work with an experienced Cosmetic Dentist to design your smile to achieve ultimate beauty and longevity. The color, shape, and size of the porcelain veneer must be carefully planned to achieve an esthetically pleasing smile. It is important that the cosmetic dentist fully understand the patient’s desired results and that the patient fully understand the corrective limitations of the dental veneers, if any.

Getting to know the Veneer Process

Even though a dental veneer is incredibly thin, it may add a slight amount of thickness to the tooth being treated. Because of this, a small amount of enamel on the surface of the tooth is lightly removed to make room for the slight thickness the dental veneer will add (typically, only about a half millimeter of enamel is removed. Then a digital scan is captured and sent to the laboratory for custom fabrication of the porcelain veneer that will later be inserted. Meanwhile, Dr. Vocaturo hand crafts customized temporaries until the permanent dental veneer is made and inserted.

The permanent dental veneer is placed on the patient’s tooth with water or glycerin to check the fit, shape, and color and to see how the porcelain veneer looks with the rest of the teeth. At this stage, adjusting the cement tint can perfect the color of the porcelain veneer. Once Dr. Vocaturo and the patient are pleased with the porcelain veneer, it is cemented into place using a visible beam to harden the cement. Most patients adjust to their porcelain veneer in about a week.

Alternatives to Veneers: Bonding

If you’re looking at alternatives to porcelain veneers in the Monmouth County, NJ area, talk to us about dental bonding. Dental bonding is a quick and painless cosmetic dental procedure that uses a composite resin to fix both structural and cosmetic defects in teeth. Dental bonding is used to repair teeth that are chipped or cracked and to replace unattractive silver fillings. If teeth are misshapen or have gaps between them, dental bonding can be leveraged to build-up and re-shape teeth and fill in gaps. Dental bonding can even be used to whiten stained and discolored teeth, too. At our practice, the dental bonding procedure typically lasts a few hours, and results are immediate.

About Our Dental Bonding Procedure

Not all dental bonding work is done equally. Be sure to work with a NJ dentist who is well-versed in dental bonding. Dr. Vocaturo has advanced training and credentials in the area of cosmetic dentistry!
